Now on to business!   xoxox Beth

Q: What tools do you use to design?
99% of the time I use PaintShop Pro.  I'm currently using version X5.

Q: How did you start digital scrapbooking? When did you start designing?
7 years ago my Mother, Sister and I decided to do a scrapbook for my Father's 70th  birthday.  I discovered digital scrapbooking while I, and I emphasis I,(because my Mother and Sister only knew how to supervisor this little project of OURS) created my Father's book.  I immediately became hooked.  The Christmas before my Father's 70th  birthday, my Mother was so impressed with the beginning of the scrapbook that she had a shirt made for me that said “Captain Creative”.  That was the last I got to spend with my Mother because she passed away July 2006.  I decided to dedicate my blog to my Mother and I continue to create in her memory.

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from? Where do you live? Who's in your family? What do you do in the average day? I am a daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother.  I reside in Dallas, Texas and wouldn't move for anything in the world.  I am married and I have two grown sons.  This year they will be 30 and 20.  I have 3 amazing grandchildren, one boy, two girls, and a new grandbaby on the way.  Don't know what it will be but as long as it's healthy you can't ask for anything more!  My new grandbaby is due in August.  I can't wait!  My average day consists of being on the computer 18 hours a day in between cooking, cleaning, and entertaining my 2.5 year old grand daughter.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite designs you've created?
Two of my favorite kits that I've designed are called Southwestern and Boys to Men

Q: Do you have any advice for designers? Have confidence in yourself first and foremost.  I still have a little problem with that when it comes to designing and always double check your work before offering it for sale.  For me, if I don't like the finished image I created, I won't put it in my kit for sale, even if the particular image is flawless.  That's just a personal thing for me.

Any personal links ?, ie. facebook, blog, website

Ok... One more.  Thank You to Lori Cobb for her wonderful freebies and inspiration.

Happy Easter from Dezines2Amaze

This is what is called Good Friday.  It is the anniversary of the day that our Savior gave His life for the life of all.  John 3:17 is not the most quoted verse from the Bible, but it is the reason why He even came to live among men.
"For Christ came not into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."  I personally want to thank Him for that sacrifice He made for me.
On Sunday most will celebrate Easter with eggs, baskets of candy, and bunnies.  Let's also remember that it was on Easter morning that Mary Magdalene went into the garden to check on Christ's tomb and found that the stone that covered the opening had been rolled aside and that the tomb was EMPTY!  What she had feared to be a grave robbery was in fact the Resurrection of our Christ from the grave, just as He had said that He would.  Through His resurrection, He conquered the grave, and bought for us.... Eternal Life!
Thank you Father in Heaven for sending to us your only begotten Son, to die on Calvary and pay the debt that I owed to You for the price of my life of sin.  I love you Lord.  xoxox Beth
My friend Christine Smith made a beautiful Easter Art Page that I would love for you to see. Please click this link and enjoy. http://christinesmith.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/7557818996_02ed773076_z_thumb.jpg

We have set our Official Grand Opening for the First of April and Lori has created a coupon code for 50% off Everything in the store, good until the 7th! Yea!!!!!  THE COUPON CODE IS:  D2AGO50off
I have the instructions from Lori for uploading my kits, and am getting really nervous!  You see.... this will be my Grand Debut in a store. I have been designing for a while but have not offered any of them for public sale.  lol  And  Iv'e been designing like crazy lately, knowing that this day was coming.
I don't know how to link downloads to the blog either but that will be coming very soon as I have a Cache' of freebies piling up and getting under foot.  This is where my designer name came from: Digital Cache'
The meaning of Cache' is a treasure trove, a hidden stash, as in a Cache' of diamonds or rubies.  Very appropriate, I think.  Well, enough chitty chat.  See you over at the store!  xoxox Beth Use it right Here:

Inked Edges in Photoshop

I love inked edges!  They give you an instant grungy look or a simply elegant border.  Tim Holtz fans would know how popular this style is.  Speaking of styles, you can purchase this affect in a 'Style' that will apply the look to your elements at the push of a button, but... Styles are usually restrictive to certain colors or prints.  Styles frequently are copy written  also.... so this brings us full circle to creating this affect yourself.
Let's get started....

Start with making a shape with the shape tool that is filled with the desired color.
Alone this looks rather dull. lol  It has no flair.  It could be a journal card left alone but fix it up with inked edges and it really gains personality.  So while it is an active screen in your desired Photoshop, double click on the layer.  This will bring up layer styles.

Select the Inner Glow box and click on the name to open the Inner Glow structure screen.  Here is where you are going to get your 'Ink' for your edges.   From the top lets look at the menu.  Blend mode needs to be multiply, you can leave the Opacity alone, but do add a bit of Noise, but first change the color in the small box to a darker shade of the color you picked for your square.
The Technique is Softer, Source,  pick edge of course, Choke good at about 15 and size can be your choice.  Mine is 40%.  Now the Quality.  Contour is already picked for you but you can play around to see what each one does.  Its kind of fun.  Range and Jitter can be left alone too.  Poke around though to see what 'stuff' does.  This is actually how I learned what I know about this.  You might learn best this way too.
Look at mine now...
You can leave it alone or go crazy on it with embellishments, brushes, glitter, etc.  The most important part of designing is HAVE FUN!
And now you know.... How to ink edges in Photoshop.

If there is a tutorial you would like to see, let me know and I will see what I can do to make it happen.

Brought to you by www.dezines2amaze.com .

I had a special request to re-post this cost comparison. Enjoy! xoxox

Have you ever gone to the craft store and seen books and books of beautiful paper, stickers galore, brads, paper frames, and lots of whatnot?  I used to go at least once a week.  I would be looking for one piece of paper, sometimes for hours.  I never got out of there with just that one (if I found it) piece; I always had a little basket of goodies or even a big basket of goodies. lol  Does this sound familiar?

This is where you will find the value in Digital Scrap booking.  The average kit cost around $4.50 and usually includes what would be:

A whole pad of paper that is coordinating, and usually has solids to match,
A package of brads or buttons, sometimes both,
A package of ribbons, or paper edges,
A selection of word art, and sometimes a whole alphabet, which is comparable to an alpha stamp set,
A selection of floral pieces, or feathers,
A package of charms, or keys, or even a beautiful locket.

Have I painted the picture yet?  How much would you pay at a craft store for all of that?  Let's think about it.  Paper - $ 9.99 easy, Brads and buttons - $ 2.00 on a good day, Ribbon usually comes on a spool and is about $3.00 right?  Paper borders- maybe $1.00 or you could make them yourself with the paper.  Now, Word art - do we go with rubber stamps or stickers or rub-ons? These can be upwards to $6.00, but lets go with stickers, $3.00.  An Alpha set of Stamps is close to $10.00 right?
Floral pieces - usually found in a pick, $1.99. I'm trying to be conservative here. Feathers - $2.00
Charms, or Keys- can be $5.00 easy, and never mind the locket this time.

What do we have?  Calculator please.....  That's $ 37.98 !  And trust me I have paid that much at a certain craft store before (and more).  So, lets look at the immediate value.  Digital kit = $4.50, Craft supplies = $37.00.  You save $32.00 right off the top!  Zowwie!

Now you take the items home, get your skizzards out, tape runner, glue dots, pictures, paper cutter, ink pads, album, glitter, heat gun. . . GET THE PICTURE  lol?  No dinner at the table for a few days huh?  Been there, done that... lol   Oh, and now you have to be extra careful with the pictures, that one of Aunt Betty, remember that's the only one of her we have.  Cut the paper carefully and save the scraps because you might be able to use a Punch and make a tag or label out of the trimmings.

And the story goes on...  Now, if you haven't seen the value yet, think of one more thing.  When you use your paper supplies up, even if you are careful and use every last scrap, When they are gone, they are gone.  Digital Scrapbook Kits  are reusable Over and Over and Over.  Zillions of combinations are still waiting to be done.

Stick with us, and we will even show you how to use that perfect Digital Chocolate Kit that you bought as a Powder Pink one with a few tweaks.  lol    Enough for today!  xoxox Beth

Jumpin' for Joy

Hello all,  I tell you I am just jumpin' for joy!  My mentor Lori has almost gotten the site set up and there will be kits galore in there before you know it.  I hope that you like the store and that it is easy to use.  We would love feedback about anything that would improve the site in your opinion.
If you have plugins or templates that would be useful for Zen Cart, we would love to implement them.  While the store is Under Construction, I have be busy creating.  Can't wait to share some of the goodies.  Keep your fingers crossed and we will see you Very soon, at our Grand Opening.  xoxox Beth http://dezines2amaze.com

Energy in Sync

Recently over at Pixel Scrapper, Marisa did a segment on critical feedback.  Great info!  I thought I would talk about it here today.  First off, no one likes criticism.  It hurts the very soul of us and is not productive.  When talking about Scrapbooking, we are talking about creativity.  Creativity comes from within and is given by the Great Creator, Himself.  How different this world might be if someone was standing by God and giving what they thought was critical feedback. lol  God Himself said, at the end of the first day, ' And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.' (Gen 1:2a).  Doesn't sound very pretty, yet, look what He created.  PTL

So, what I am getting at is that, when it comes to art, tread lightly on others creativity; we can not see what the designer sees for the end product.  There is an old saying that goes, 'you will attract more bees with honey than vinegar'. lol  It's the same with advice.  Advice, when asked for can go like this...  Positive statement first - I like this about it... Constructive statement next - The colors would match a little better if... and end with another Positive statement - I think your flowers are lovely.  Get the gist?

When I submit something to Lori for review, I expect honest, constructive critiques.  She always comes through, and my artistic abilities are growing.  She instills the desire to succeed in me through her encouragement and care.  Cami and I have been crafting partners for years, and I believe our best 'Stuff' happens when we collaborate.  I don't have to get my way, she doesn't have to get her way.  I think the word for this kind of creativity together is Synergy: energy in Sync.

So, on that note, let me tell you that we love to get comments on the blog and site.  Your creative suggestions are welcome and we hope we can all get that Synergy and Mojo going together.

Monday Morning Blues

Ever wake up and the whole world has changed over night?  It's dark, you can't hear the birds, you can't even breathe and you feel like your head is under water?  That was ME this morning, only the reality of it all is that I have a rip-roaring cold. lol

I know that I can be a bit of a DRAMA QUEEN.  But.... I felt so bad that I canceled on my best friend and partner in crime, Cami.  We had scheduled girl time with coffee this morning.  Now, you must get the impression of how I felt/feel.  It takes Hell or High Water to keep me from Cami! So, take your pick.  Either one of them will work. lol

Now---  We, the creative team at Dezines2Amaze have taken a short break from the store launch to explore other Mainframe options.  This does NOT mean that we QUIT.  It means that it will be just a little longer until our store 'lights' get turned on forever.

So..... Hang in there.  Know that you are loved, and pull up your big girl PANTIES, and Deal with it, for a few more days.  lol   ( I will try to find my big girl panties, and do the same,)

Sweet Sunday

So cute!  My husband found a set of clip-art at Goodwill and we just had to get it for me, because I am a 'Clip-art artist'. lol  I loaded it on my computer for a look-see and OMG there are gobbs of open use images from old children's stories, kitchen scenes, like 50+ silhouettes of just about everything, and most of them cutable.  The portfolio says that it has 250,000 images,  lol  Im not sure if it really does but its pretty intense.  There are 19 cds of clip-art. lol  It's been fun looking through some of them.

Well, here is the skinny on a great tutorial that I wanted to put up here.  Marisa Lerin did a great tut on how to make cardstock.  I asked her if I could use it and show it to you all and she declined my request.  I guess I understand.  She owns the images that she used in the tut, but, she does not own the imformation. lol

So.... I will share with you how to do that lil' thing.
First open you designing program.  It will work for all of them that I have used so far, PSE, CS, PSP, and GIMP.

File  - New - 12X12" page 300 dpi
Fill it with whatever color you want.
Filter -  Noise -  Add Noise 20-30%
Filter - Blur - Gaussian Blur 3.0 px
Ta Dah!  Your done.

Here are a few sample pages.

The images on the top are textured cardstock and the images on the bottom is the cardstock I made with this technique.  So very easy!  You can make cardstock all day long now. lol

Have Fun Now!    xoxox Beth

Do you know about Pixel Scrapper?

Pixel Scrapper is a website that gives you more than your run of the mill (lol) download a day.  When you sign up and create a profile you become more than just a customer, you become a community member.

Marisa Lerin and her husband Jordan have designed a website that is interactive and fun.  Each day you decide for yourself what you would like to download.  You are assigned points daily that are used as 'money' to shop from thousands of products.  All of her products are able to be used for Commercial Use as well as Personal Use.  You will never spend a real cent unless you want to donate to the site to acquire extra points.  I do it regularly as I'm a CU junkie.

I must say, this is my favorite site to get just that right thing to finish a kit that I am designing or, to start a kit from scratch.  Go look around.  I KNOW you will LOVE it.

Where do you get your inspiration?

Today I received one of my favorite magazines in the mail and could hardly wait to sit down and read, oops... LOOK AT THE PICTURES!  I get a lot of creative inspiration from magazines.  I have a good reasons why.  Magazine editors spend loads of time and money to find out what is CURRENT in designer colors, styles, and theme.  Why wouldn't we want to get that information for the small price of a subscription?

Another great source for digital inspiration is the PAINT section of a hardware store, or department store.  There are probably hundreds of paint swatches that you can have for free and brochures from paint manufacturers that even show how colors can be mixed and matched to get unique pallets.  If you like to make greeting cards or Hybrid scrapbooking pages the paint chips are great for elements or color coordinating frames for small photos.  A couple of years ago Cami and I used paint chips on the cutest Christmas cards.  Shades of blue for Winter Wonderland cards were perfect.  We used Shades of green for Christmas tree cards.  It was fun and a cheap way to add variety to our supplies.

My absolute favorite website for color inspiration is www.design-seeds.com.  go check it out!

And of course... Nature inspires the Artist in all of us.   Nuff Said...lol  xoxox Beth

What a great day!

Today I had direct input from Lori, Cami, Monja, and C. Smith.  I think the site is looking AMAZING and is almost ready to unveil completely.  Once again, if you would like to go poke around and see what it looks like 'Under Construction', be our guest.

Any tips or special things that you would like to see are welcomed comments.

I personally have not put any of my kits in the store yet as I am spending So much, no... Too much, no... a reasonable amount of time getting the tweaks to the site made that have been requested.  Can't seem to get rid of the sidebar completely yet, but gosh-darn-it I will before I die trying. lol

If it was possible, I would like to sit down with every one of you and have a cup of coffee, or tea, or whatever and just chat about why you scrap and what you like to use to do it.  Here's to you! Feel free to right-click and save this image as a pu png. and enjoy that cup with me.  xoxox Beth

Just Love Digital Grunge Art!

I do... I just love digital grunge art.  One of my favorite digi artists is Christine Smith! http://christinesmith.net/blog/  It gives us just one more way to use digital scrapbooking files.  There are 2 of them still available for free as of today.  Check out her blog for the links.

This one is just amazing!  In the next one she is empowering us to make it happen.  I think that I have related to these because I am hard at work building our web site.  If we put our mind to it, we can do anything.  xoxox Beth

First Product in the Store

I was so excited today to see that my favorite designer Lori Cobb had loaded one of her wonderful kits into the store.  I will have to get a tutorial from her for how to do it myself. lol  You see... we are such newbies at having our own webstore that EVERYTHING is exciting. xoxox Yea!!!

I saw a great tutorial today on how to make a string of beads from scratch in Photoshop Creative Suites.  It actually didn't look that hard.  I will be putting tutorials on the web in the CLASSROOM area. Would LOVE input for what you would like to know.

One of my favorite people to learn from is Marisa Lerin of Pixelscrapper.com  She has great tuts on textures, alphas, page layouts, how to make a template, etc.  I will be sharing EVERYTHING I have learned.  So, so, so looking forward to it!

Enough chit chat, I will be back tomorrow with more progress news, but until then, have a great rest of the evening.
